What was the highlight of Ohtels Cabogata Retamar
A good value hotel within easy walking distance to the seafront.
The room we were given was very large, with a separate bedroom and bathroom. The rooms seem to be well-soundproofed. The beds were firm and comfortable. Everywhere was very clean and tidy. The food offered on the buffet for breakfast and evening meal was very good, with a wide range of options, for those with no food-related disorders. We were especially impressed by the service of Amadou, the chef, who ensured that I had gluten-free desserts, and Francisco, the waiter, who made sure that I had gluten-free options for breakfast. The hotel is close to a nice stretch of beach, with a lot of open leisure areas - about 5 minutes walk away. There are a few small shops and restaurants within 10 minutes walk. A car is essential to see the nearby region. Overall, we enjoyed our stay in this hotel, and would use it again if ever staying in the area.
The food, other than that on the grill, wasn´t labelled to show whether it contained gluten, fish, etc. No matter how helpful the staff are, it is annoying for guests to have to wait until one has time to go and fetch something for you. They are busy enough !!! Other hotel chains are now starting to label their foods properly, so I am disappointed that this chain has not modernised in this way. Almost 10% of the population, for example, have gluten intolerance issues. There were too many doors locked between various areas of the hotel. For example, at one point, the only way out of the bar onto the adjoining terrace, was by walking through reception, as all of the doors were locked. I saw several families struggling with children, buggies etc. trying to take their drinks, from the bar, out into the fresh air (not the pool area, which is rightly fenced off). I had to ask for a plug for the bath - I am unable to take a shower. There was a notice in the room to say that plugs had been removed to save water. This is a nonsensical gesture, as the showers adjacent to the swimming pool, outside of our room, were running continually, and hosepipes in use in the gardens were leaking - wasting far more water than I would ever use in a fairly small bath.
